SHOTOVER MOONLIGHT 30KM ADVENTURE RUN
The Shotover Moonlight 30km Adventure Run starts in Skippers Canyon on the beach beside the Shotover River, and follows the same course as the marathon for the first 10km. This is all single track running, predominantly on historic water races. The route takes you high above the Shotover River and Stony Creek, before turning south to run through beech forest in Murphy’s Creek into the heart of Ben Lomond Station.
The scenery continues to be magnificent and you will be able to enjoy views down Moonlight Creek towards Ben Lomond and Bowen Peak before arriving at Moonlight Lodge at approx 15km halfway. The course then follows farm roads along the Point Block and you will cross the Moonlight River on the stock bridge, just as the 4000 merino wethers do each year on their journey to the woolshed for shearing.
The final gruelling climb of the race takes you high above the historic gold mining settlement of Sefferstown, before descending to Moke Creek. After negotiating numerous creek crossings and even a tunnel you will reach your well deserved finish at Moke Lake.
